The question is, why the Israeli government is sending aid and rescue delegation to Nepal? Nir Gontarz asks this question in his article “Quiet, flying” (The Seventh Eye, 28.4.2015, Hebrew), and Nir Gontarz answers that they do it for public relations, or PR, for short. The Israeli government is pushing a self PR, or “Hasbara”, or propaganda, through its army and its delegation to Nepal. And Nir Gontarz is correct, they do. It goes without saying that the vast majority of donor countries and organizations*, and there are many, do it quietly and modestly, simply because it’s the thing to do when such a tragedy happens. The Israeli government does it with fanfare trumpets and flags, for everyone to see how wonderful the actions of the Israeli government and its military, the most moral army in the world, you know, are. So why the Israeli government is carrying out this propaganda? Why is the Israeli government doing this?
Perhaps the answer is that the Israeli government thinks good deeds offset wrongdoing. Or at least good deeds shade evil deeds. And if they glorify the good deeds, maybe the world will forget the evil deeds. If the Israeli government publishes pictures of these wonderful men and women in uniform, who flew to the end of the world to gently and carefully embrace a baby and move it out of harm’s way, the world will forget the hundreds of babies and children who were murdered last summer by the very same wonderful men and women in uniform, there, in besieged Gaza, west to Otef Aza (Surrounding the Gaza Strip). So that’s it, saving a baby does not offset murdering one. Just for you know, it does not offset.
Or perhaps the Israeli government believes that if they publish a picture of an Israeli soldier and his loyal dog picking through the ruins of a house in destroyed Kathmandu in search of signs of life of trapped under the rubble of the houses, the World will forget the use of dogs made by the Israeli government and its army in the occupied West Bank, to impose terror and fear on those who try to protest against the occupation, the discrimination and the apartheid regime, controlled by the Israeli government through its military and its dogs. So that’s it, a dog that helps saving lives, does not offset a dog helping to take one. Just for you know, it does not offset.
And perhaps the Israeli government and its advocates think that the fully equipped field hospital, to treat victims of the earthquake in Nepal, erase the shame of bombing and eliminating hospitals and rescue teams of Gazans, who rushed to aid the victims of the endless bombs carried out by the most moral Air Force and Gunners in the world, then, in the summer of 2014, during the war called “Protective Edge”. So that’s it, a field hospital in Nepal does not offset the destruction of hospitals and means of rescue in Gaza. Just for you know, it does not offset.
This does not offset. Just for you know, it does not offset. And good deeds of the Israeli government will never balance or offset the many evil deeds. And when the day comes, and the Israeli government will face justice before the nations of the world and found guilty at trial, maybe then, and only then, can the Israeli government use its good deeds, as arguments for mitigation.
